Our heart behind gathering
Romans 13 has been a guiding passage for shaping how we want to regather. We want to submit to our government and also want the law of love to guide us. God doesn’t just care about re-gathering, he cares about our tone and conduct in the midst of it. As 1 Peter 3 told us yesterday, we need to conduct ourselves with love, gentleness and respect.
We are driven by biblical convictions, not political labeling. We want to keep the big picture in mind. Our motivation is not “we have to regather,” but “how can we regather” based on what Scripture says about gathering and our unique situation as Red Mountain Community Church in East Mesa.
Hebrews 10 speaks to the importance of gathering and the assumption of it. Gathering as a church body is part of the larger mission of being a kingdom outpost. At the same time, church is larger than just a physical Sunday gathering. It’s a group of people functioning together. We will not forget those who aren’t able to attend physically and we are planning for this process to be gradual.
Everyone has their own context that they are in right now and we are prayerfully considering how to accommodate everyone’s unique situation. Every ministry has a different way they are going to handle regathering based on their ministry and it will be a gradual process.
Heading into the summer, the name of the game is gradual and flexible.
During our in-person weekend services, we will give our best efforts at social distancing. We aren’t requiring that you wear a mask, but masks are encouraged. We will clean in between services. The governor’s office put out some guidelines specific for churches and we will seek to take all of those into consideration as well.
If you are sick, please stay home. If you or a loved one living with you are high risk, feel free to stay home. There is no judgment. We have freedom in Christ! We will share more information about specific precautions we will be taking as May 31st draws closer.
We will continue live streaming both Kids’ Church and the main service on our website and Facebook. We will work out the timing of these services as we determine how many services we will need to have.
Kids and Students
We are hoping that Children’s Ministry and Student Ministries will be able to start back up in mid-June, ideally before camp and VBS occur in July. We will be in communication about what these ministries will look like in the near future. Kids and students are absolutely welcome in the main in-person services starting on May 31, if you’d like to come as a family.
We want anyone who wants to come to church to be able to come to church on May 31. The only way to figure out how many services we will need to have on May 31 is to know how many people would like to come to church. Please pray about it with your family and take this one-question by this Wednesday, May 20, so that we can make preparations and plan what registration, cleaning and that entire process will look like.
Prayer plays an important role in all of this. We are praying as leaders and we ask that you continue to pray along with us. I trust and know that God is leading us through this.
