This is a 4 day mission trip.  We will depart Feb 17 and return Feb 20th.  There is a mandatory trip meeting on Novmber 5th if you wish to be a part of the team going into Mexico.

WHAT:  A trip to Mexico to build homes.  We will pour a concrete floor, stand walls and build the roof of a humble 11’ x 22’ home.  It will have 2 doors, 2 windows and a stucco finish. A dream come true for a Christian family.  But more than a home, you will be showing the love of Christ in a physical, unforgettable way.

WHO:  Anyone.  If you can pound a nail, we need you.  We also need supporters.  You can support by helping with the planning of the trip, cooking a meal we will take down with us or help financially.

To build one house, we need 15-20 adults.

Children:  Kids as young as 6 can help.  As a parent you will be required to supervise your child.  This is a worksite with nails and sometimes barbed wire and glass.

WHERE:  Rocky Point, Mexico; about a 5 hour drive.  We will be tent camping in a large sandy clearing with American security.  Several other valley churches will be at the same campground.

We will be carpooling down.  I have a team that is setting up vehicles.  We need large vans, Suburbans, 4x4’s and open trailers.  If you have any of these, please contact me.  You must have approval to drive a vehicle down.  Registration fees go into providing Mexican insurance.

WHEN: Friday, Feb 17th thru Mon Feb 20th, and we pack on Thur the 16th...

We actually pack up on Thursday night, Feb 12th .  We will be on the road 5am Fri morning and we get back late Feb 16th.

We are working with an organization called Amor Ministries.  They have been organizing churches for over 28 years and have built over 10,000 homes.  They provide the building materials, the camp and camp over site (banyos, etc…)   It costs us about $5000 for one house.

The Amor House Project

Amor Ministries typically builds an 11’x22’, two-room home with a concrete floor, stucco-finished exterior, weather sealed roof, two windows, and a door. An Amor house is a simple design, built according to the standards of the community so a group without skilled labor or power tools can still complete the project.

Amor doesn't allow the use of power tools or generators on the worksite. We want everyone to be involved in the house building process and power tools do not foster that environment. We realize that there are other methods of completing the building project more quickly, but we want everyone to experience the culture, get to know the family, and allow for a positive cultural experience while in Mexico.

What to Expect

On your Amor mission trip, you can be certain of one thing: nothing is certain in Mexico. However, we can give you a few basic guidelines for what you will most likely experience on your Amor trip.

You will be staying in one of Amor's campgrounds in Puerto Peñasco. While at camp, you will be sleeping in tents, taking bucket showers, and making fine use of our exceptional baños (outhouse facilities).

Each team will drive to and from camp and the worksite each day and will be assigned an Amor staff member to aid in the building process. All group leaders are provided a house building manual, and Amor staff members will simply act as a guide and provide help where needed. Depending on the time of year, your Amor staff member may be with your group the entire time, or he or she may be checking on other groups throughout the day as well.
